As the title says - looking to buy my first pair of binoculars sometime here in the near future. Looking for recommendations, willing to pay a decent price but also not looking to break the bank. Any good FB groups or websites I should be looking? Is it worth buying a used pair? Thanks in advance - gearing up for the big move to WY

I’d recommend Swaro if you can bank it. Maven as the next lower step.

There are good deals right now on used glass. FB marketplace is a good place to look. Rokslide Optic for sale forum.
Thanks, trust me I’d love to own a pair of Swaros but can’t drop that kind of $ right now. Just bought a new gun and scope, I will check that forum out. Would like to keep it around a thousand if I can help it.

For sure buy Swaro. Don't waste your time on others. I bought a couple different vortex from cheap to top notch, and nothing compares.
I have looked through Maven as well and they are impressive.
Take your time.
Couple questions: When do you need the glass? Is it for this year, or next year hunting season? Will it be for hunting out west?

Moving to WY at the end of the month. Would like to get a pair in the near future to go on hunts with my buddies this year as I wait for resident status. Will mainly be hunting in WY for the foreseeable future.

Pures will be too much. Look for ELs or SLCs. Swaro warranty will cover any issues.

Here’s 10x42 SLCs for $1275

First off the guy recommending Swaro’s for a first pair of binos is dead wrong. You’ll be plenty fine starting out and continuing with forever more a $400 pair of Vortex Vipers or Leupold BX4’s.

No I’m not. No reason to buy inferior glass and need to upgrade later when one good purchase can happen.

It depends on where you will be using them and how often. If you will be using them often and in large open areas it may be worth looking for swaros or something comparable.

If you will only be using them a couple times a year or mostly in timbered areas where distance isn’t as far then maybe less critical.

I have a pair of Vortex Razor that work pretty well. Depending on when you want them wait for Black Friday/Holiday sales or keep an eye out on the used market.

Leicas are solid too, little cheaper than swaros, lots of used options under 1k.

You are wrong this guy would plenty fine with Vipers or Bx4 which is good glass. Swaro rose to the top in early manufacturing of binoculars but todays manufacturing and glass is completely different. Your only paying for the name now.

Vortex and Leopold glass is not comparable to Swaro/Leica.

European glass rose to the top because it’s the best in the world.

Let’s say that all binoculars cost the same, who would buy Vortex?

It’s more than price that separates good optics…

I’m far from rich, but I’m guessing the guys who poo poo Swarovski as just paying for the name haven’t actually used them. Same with Leica and Zeiss. My SLCs are probably the best money I ever spent. Those used SLCs are far better glass than a pair of vortex for a similar price.
