Farthest You've Packed An Elk

This is an interesting question about ethics
the farthest I personally have packed an elk was 18-20 miles,Horses and mules of course.
On foot about 2 miles. The situation is important how long it will take isn't as important as can you get the meat out before it spoils.
If not you may want to evaluate where your hunting. And possibly even pass on a shot. The size of the rack should not come into play.

That is a very very good point Nitro...
I try to get the heat out of the bones immediatly if possible. In hot weather, you can take it into the bottom of a drainage, put it in the coolest place out of the sun you can find and if possible, put your sleeping bag over it, making sure it is soaked and wet....
That is just one way, there are a lot more that I know of...

smaller chunks cool quicker to so boning them out and hanging the small chunks is some times necessaries.Mite be topic here, how to care for the meat?
