For OP. At the time was looking at cockers so thought he was concerned with size of some of the other hunting breeds.
But in general, I have found females to be calmer, less mess, better with kids, smarter, longer living and easier to train. YMMV.
(And yes, there is an obvious humorous remark set up in that later half of the sentence
)
