Elk hunt in New Mexico

Hello, I am going on my first elk hunt in New Mexico October 1-5 in unit 42. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on the terrain or where to look. I am also debating on bringing my 7mm-08 with a 139 GMX hornady bullet
