I am carrying a Havak PH2 that was born as a 300 win mag but now identifies as a 7mm PRC. I have been shooting this PRC a lot this spring and summer and like the cartridge. Yesterday I was punching steel at 1,560 yards about 5 out of 7 shots out there. In total this rifle has about 250 rounds through it from me.
The range I am using has steel at 100, 200, 300, 400, 470, 620, 780, 850, 965, 1,076, 1,188, 1,230, 1,430, and the aforementioned 1,560. While I can't imagine taking a shot at an elk over the 500ish yard mark and hopefully being closer, I am gaining confidence by hitting a 2 or 3 inch steel plate at 470 and human body sized torsos out to the 1,230 mark. The targets have a bowling pin sized and shaped center painted orange and I would say I am 80% plus in the orange.
No one freak out, like I said even punching steel out far I am limiting myself to a more reasonable range. There is something to be said for being very proficient at 2x that range though.
