Got a question? With my rifle sighted in here in my state which is Tn and I come out west to hunt will the diference in elevation affect the the zero of how I have it sighted in. I don't know if that would affect it but I'm just asking

If your not going over 5,000 feet or shooting over 400yds I wouldnot worry much. You may want to check your rifle out there when you get there just for asurance. It will be a little high maybe

I live in NC. I sighted in at home at 3100' and probably about 55 may have been 65 on some days I was shooting.

Drove to MT twice and checked my zero at 6000' probably about 30 degrees before I started hunting.

Both times I was 1" low at 100 yards. I have a scope with BDC reticle so I made the adjustment at 100 yds and that took care of it. I killed a bull with one shot at 450yds on the first trip.

I think the Temp difference was the main thing that changed my zero. I was using a 7mm RUM with Reloader 22 Powder and I have heard several reports where the reloader powder changes a lot with temp.

I had the exact same shot, in the same place, at the same size bull on the first morning of the second trip but didn't shoot. I thought I would get a chance at something bigger, it was the first morning, and I had 8 days to hunt. I never got a shot at anything the rest of the hunt!

I think temp is a lot of the factor. I'm sure that elevation has a little in it also, along with a lot of other factors.

I usually zero mine he at 1500' in moderate temps at 100yds When I get west at it's cooler and higher elevation it comes to exact. I always make sure to, that the first shot is the one that's zeroed. That's the most important to me. One is supposed to be all you need. That i know where the next shots are going to hit as the rifle warms up. I did notice this year that since I changed rifles that my windage has improved. Even from a bench. I assume that is the different rifle.

My rule of thumb. 1" high @ 100yds here and majority of time i"m dead on in the west
