I am still debating on if i want to apply for an September early season hunt in CO or go with a 4th season hunt. My only concern with the late season hunt is they are very weather dependent to push them out of the higher country. For you guys who have done the later season hunts if the weather pushes the deer down lower are you mostly looking in the low BLM areas or around food sources? If the weather is warm are you up i the high country or do they start to move down as the rut kicks in?

It’s different all over the state, but where I hunt the bucks seem to leave the high country mid Octoberish, regardless of what the weather does. Elk is a different story and very weather dependent. I assume you are talking about next year? Also, 4th rifle buck tags can take a lot of preference points depending on your unit.

The fourth season typically brings the rut, so the bucks will be where the does are. In my experience the does are at usually at lower elevations.
