Hello everyone, this may be a question better suited to Troutnut or a fly fishing forum, but I value HuntTalks opinions.
I live in Kalispell, with family in Missoula, surrounded by fantastic fisheries like the Blackfoot, Flathead, Swan, Bitterroot, etc. there are also TONS of small creeks and tributaries as well as mountain lakes. I’m new to fly fishing, have gotten my cast OK, but still struggling on how to find good spots to try. Is there any tactics or tips to scout for spots on OnX, google earth, etc?
I’ve been using Montana’s Fwp site to find fishing access spots, but trying to see if I wade upstream, downstream, 50 feet or 50 yards is still beyond me.
I had a blast on a guided trip floating but don’t have a boat or funds to do that and need to focus on wading for the time being.
