Dog saddle

Anyone ever use a saddle on your dog while hiking or hunting? We have the great pleasure of having a bernese mountain dog and have done some pulling with him and we are considering taking him on a mellow hunting trip this fall to test him out and see what kind of packing he can do for us. In order to do that, we need to purchase a proper saddle and start training here soon. Figuring on breaking him in on 1/2 mile walks in our back 80 increasing the amount of weight he carries reaching up to about 25 pounds (not more than 20% of his weight). Been researching a lot of options for him and it really seems like the industry isn't based around hunting but instead fashion so it's been tough. Anyone have any recommendations to look into?

I have used a dog pack on a couple of trips with a dog of mine. Didn't put much in the pack, mostly their food and bedding. Worked just fine. Can't remember the make/model, but it was basically a vest with a couple pockets along the sides.

Just a thought here. Have you looked at some pack equipment made for goats? Your dog is probably as big as some of the smaller breeds of pack goats.

Llamas yes...goats not yet but good idea lol he is 125 pounds and has a 45" girth, he's a big boy!
