I recently purchased a set of Crispi Summits size 11.5D online from BlackOvis. Being a Midwesterner these are my first real backpack/hiking boots beyond my simple hunting or knee high rubbers. I've traditionally been a pretty consistent 11.5D fit. All present footwear I have is 11.5D from tennis shoes to steel toes. After not having a local business nearby to try on hiking boots I opted to order my size online and hope for the best.
After getting the boots I wore them indoors whenever at home for almost a week. Even slept in them one night after dozing-off on the couch. I had no obvious issues with fit when indoors so I decided to remove the tags and wear them outside. While taking my kids for a walk to the neighborhood park today I began to notice the toes on my right foot would rub the ends of the boots. Once aware, it became noticeable with nearly every step. Downhill steps it was even more prominent.
I am aware the shape of each foot is a little different. I was surprised that it was this noticeable with these new Crispis, as I don't recall this being an issue with any of my other footwear. Since they are now scuffed up and dirty its unlikely I'll be able to return for a full refund, so I'll keep wearing them this spring to see if they shape to my foot a little better. If not, I'll likely end up ordering 1/2 size up (ie size 12). I'll also call BO to see if they have a recommendation.
Question - do many of you guys run into this issue? What have you done - simply get 1/2 size up to accommodate the larger foot? Have you had any issues with fit (e.g. slop) when going to a slightly longer boot size?
Thanks for any insight.
