Its still too early for Caribou, about 3 weeks I hope and I wont shoot a moose when the temps are 70, damn hot hp here right now! So I decided to stalk my favorite fish north of the Arctic Circle, Pike!
We just got home and wow we nailed the toothy bastards this weekend. Last night we caught about a dozen with most in the 20 -25 inch range but skinny. This morning we broke camp and headed into the Noatak Flat of the Noatak National Park. Slam time! My son and I landed over 30 fish in about 4 hours and kept 3 that were fat and over 2 feet long. My son took a nice 32 incher that weighed in at 11 pounds on his 4 wt spinning rod. I hooked a pig on a #3 red and white Mepp spinner on Gavin’s 4 wt spinning rod. He slammed the Mepp and took of into the weeds. It took 10 minutes to get him out of the weeds and into a net, 35 inches and 16 pounds! Pigggggg… I love fishing these northern monsters!
