I'm from southwest Montana but planning a trip to Ekalaka for the last week of deer season. I've hunted all around the state but never there any tips on deer numbers, lodging, etc? Thanks.
There are two motels in Ekalaka, and three motels in Baker, which is about 35 miles to the north. I work over there once a month and usually stay at the Montana Motel in Baker, its the best motel in the area, but they do book fast in the hunting season. I can't provide any insight on the deer hunting.
I hunted that area about 5 years ago on some block management.I found some deer and I'm sure you could find a nice buck in the area.I hunted the last week of deer season there and saw 1 other hunter.I moved over towards the Forsyth area to meet up with some friends, and found alot more deer there. There was also alot more hunters.I enjoyed my trip and plan to go again, but next time with upland bird license.
