I would like to do one more trip this fall/winter and thinking of either Oregon forblacktail or Az for coues.Pretty sure the late archery for coues is an otc tag.Are there otc tags available for rifle in any decent areas?I know I should get off my butt and look on their website but thought some guys on here would know a lot more then I can find out.It would be a LONG trip for me so I was wondering what my odds would be better with;rifle or archery in the rut
This hunt would give me a good reason to go see my niece's newborn baby so it probably takes preference over an Oregon blackktail.Any imfo your willing to give would be helpful. This would be a totally new experience for me.not even sure the most successful ways to hunt these deer so I got a lot of homework to do if I want to make it happen this year

you will have to call g&f to find out if there any otc tags left for rifle. archery in last half of dec and all of jan is otc. good luck

As of Sept. 11th there were no OTC rifle tags in Az for deer. I looked Saturday. You can get an OTC archery tag though. Its only good for the last 2 weeks of December.

Can you hunt any unit in late archery?I heard the border units were best along Mexico border. Is that a good area.Or, should I wait and do a rifle hunt next year.Want a trip with decent odds since I'm coming from east coast

I can't help with any unit recommendations, but here's a pdf link to the main regs. Page 42 has a chart that shows archery seasons by unit for December of this year and January of next year.

If you're interested in a mixed-bag hunt, you could come out in January and also pick up an archery javelina tag. They are not OTC in the southern units. The deadline to get a javelina tag in the draw is October 14, but you should have no problem buying a leftover, starting in December. I don't think those tags ever sell out, but you'd have to call game and fish to find out.

Javelina tag info is here:
