Colorado Rut

I'm hunting in SW CO the last week of September. Does anyone on this board hunt that area? Is the rut going strong yet there?

They are starting to bugle all over the state. I was up in the hills yesterday and listened to 4-5 bulls bugling back and forth. In the last week or two they have started to gather their cows and herd up. Should be a good year, have seen by far more elk this year than ever before.

We usually hunt a little earlier that what we are this year and I've been concerned that we'd miss the best part of the "rut"... hopefully not.

A friend of mine just returned this past Sat from SW CO and said there was very little bugling until Thursday last week when they started up pretty good... said the bulls were still bunched up pretty good so maybe this means that the best part of the rut is a week or so away yet??? I leave this Sunday to chase them with a stick and string... crossing my fingers that it's not too late!!!
