Going on my first ever Elk hunt with some friends November 7th-13th in unit 71. I think we have pinned down where we are wanting to backpack into.
Do y’all have tips on what to do on first elk hunt this time of year?
Will the elk be responding to calls?
Will there be decent visibility from higher elevations? Or is everything going to be very thick to see.
Really just any tips to hopefully see some elk!
Thanks,
Blaire

It supposed to snow this weekend. I'm in the adjoining unit 70. The elk are still high. Over 9 thousand. There are a lot of elk in the lizardhead Wilderness and up Barlow creek. The elk won't lower in elevation until we get unmanageable snow for them to forage. I heard a bugle today but I wouldn't expect much luck calling as they are herded up. Keep your face in the breeze, get away from the roads (miles in) and good luck!!!
