Since I have been very lucky to draw tags every year I was looking for cheap trail cameras to put out in case they got stolen. Well Wal-Mart had the wild game innovations 1.3 for $21.I used them for a year and they are great for the cost and I own 6 now. Night picture are only good if the animal is stopped (like at a waterhole). Well to improve on the cameras and cut cost even more I made my own 6v batteries pack. Now I had most the stuff but I price checked everything and its way cheaper to DIY then to buy this set up. Now if you own a MOJO you have the batterie and charger all ready. Here my parts list.
Total cost $38.86
Wild game camera $21 (walmart)
6v batteries $6.99 (ebay)
25ft wire $3.99 (radio shack)
DC Power Plug size M PER 2 $3.89 (radio shack)
Tupperware $2.99 (walmart)

I have also gotten good performance out of those cameras and recently bought several more at Walmart. I bought them for high risk areas and have had a bear eat one, but none have been stolen yet. I'm not sure I would buy any other low end cameras as long as they keep offering these. You can't beat some of the features of the high end cameras, but if you're just watching something like a water hole where the animal will stick around for a minute there isn't much reason to spend more money.

If you don't want to rig up an external battery, try some high capacity (2500 mAh) NiMH rechargeable C batteries. I got them from Harbor Freight for $6.99 per pair. One set of 4 batteries kept a camera running through bear season starting in late April and still had juice last week.

I'm using a slightly upgraded model from Wildgame and my batteries last FOREVER! I've been using it for month now with pics every week (not a lot however) and haven't replaced the batteries yet.

Great job, I'm just making the point that cheap game cameras are a good place to start anyway. I've been very happy with mine and it does what it's supposed to. Nice work!
