I was working on a fire in New in New Mexico a few months back, and saw some history in the area that sparked my interest. I found the book Blood and Thunder, and figured I would give it a read. It was a great book and well worth checking it out. It provides a really cool glimpse into the life of Kit Carson and offers a fair evaluation of Indian and American relations. The book got me thinking how soft we are as a culture now, and quite honestly how stupid we are. I don't possess half the grit and knowledge that some of those folks did back in the 1800's. The stories of bravery, strength, and living off the land are found al throughout the book. I was really motivated to become a better outdoorsman, and spend less time on new age technology. I just picked up a bunch of "mountain man" books. You guys have any similar recommendations?
