Staunch HuntQuietly supporter, but danggggggggg that was brutal in the beginning. I quit renewing my BHA membership circa 2019. I like Cal, thought he was one of the few "good ones" in the influencing community who hadn't sold out and let the fame/notoriety go to his head. He 100% sold me on renewing my membership a couple weeks ago and led to me buying a 3-year. Well, after the first quarter of that podcast I was ready to ask for my money back or do a credit card chargeback. Cal somewhat redeemed himself in the 2nd half of the episode though. Still disappointed in him, he KNOWS what the influencing industry has caused, just won't admit it. I still have faith he can help steer BHA in a better direction. Hopefully the R3 argument didn't fall on deaf ears.

My defense of R3 would be, the more hunters in the population the more favorable legislation the hunting community will get, and better defense against antihunting campaigns and public land grabs. I wish Ryan would have let him rant and just said "I disagree, we are more likely to lose hunting opportunity from outside the hunting community than from within."
Matt's real gripe is with exploding human population. There's more competition for everything these days, campsites, rafting permits, event tickets, ect. But who's going to advocate for people to have less children.
I loved what he had to say about hunting leasing, public land grazing, access, and ag subsides.
If you asked both of them "do you want hunting to continue into the future beyond all the generation alive now?" Ryan would say "absolutely" and Matt would say "I don't care". I agree more with ensuring the future of hunting even if it means more crowded hunting today. I don't see hunting in our county one hundred years from now as a given.
