We've been experiencing more and more black bears in areas never before seen. One was killed on the interstate 1/2 mile from Buffalo City Hall. Young one about 110lbs. But two not far away from me that were hit and killed one weighed 230lbs the other 320lbs. And one a youngster has been a regular visitor to a dumpster in a playground in the city of Dunkirk/Fredonia. In this case he follows the creek down out of the hills into the city for a quick dinner.
Got a good bear story for you you'll be rolling on the floor. Last 4th of July a guy had a family picnic and they deep fried a turkey. Well the party broke up about 1AM guy decides to clean up in the morning and goes to bed. About 3AM he hears a noise in the yard looks out and here's this big black bear cleaning out the turkey fryer. Consumed about 1 1/2 gallons of fry oil. Guy calls the NYSDEC the next day and they sent the resident bear biologist out to check it out. Now I know this biologist. He said it was the easiest bear he ever tracked as he was litterally painting the woods.
