My old man and I drew 22N late season archery, anyone else had the tag? Low odds of success but hunting elk in AZ beats not!!!

Feel free to pm any info as well, just starting the research but wondering about other people's experience that late.

Ive done this hunt and will be next door in 23 this yr for the late archery.
If you go into the hunt thinking of it as a poor mans sheep hunt i think you'll enjoy it. The Mogollon rim country is beautiful.
PM me with questions if you'd like.

GAbearclaw, hunt the junipers to find sign,if it snows move up into the pines. SHEDZILLA is correct the rim country is beautiful.
Have a cabin just outside of Payson, plenty of deer/and elk in front yard.
Biggest Elk I have seen all came from the Junipers.

Thanks Shed and dirt!!!

It sounds like it will be a tough hunt, but my old man and I are hunting elk in AZ! New bow is coming home tomorrow and is being built with the sole purpose of delivering an arrow into a bull in that beautiful rim country.

I am hoping dad drives his side by side out from NC, then we would have two trucks and that to always have another rig at the other end of the big hike. My unit map will be here next week, then I will pm some questions if you gentlemen don't mind after I have done some preliminary scouting from the left coast. If ya'll ever want to know where some skinny sporks are at here in Kalistan, just holler!

I will look for your reply next week, maybe we can triangulate a game plan.Although you will be the ones with feet on the ground.
Start practicing with your new bow ASAP.One thing I didn't do was practice in the wind. You have to be prepared for all cicumstances.my oversite cost my a pig in Jan. 3 shots @ 30yds ,all wide left.Keep .in touch

Anyone got any input on calling this late (mid-late NOV)? I have it on good authority that the bulls are still vocal but am not sure what to plan for with regards to calling.

I am getting my boots out there in 3 weeks or so, but figure if anyone has experience with late bugling bulls and how to respond (or not) would be great.

Am thinking at worst if I am not locating them, an early am bugle may get a response. Even though it is a tough hunt, I will be huntin AZ elk soon! Thanks everyone.

You'll still hear them, but I never got them to come in that late in the year. 22 was my go to elk unit in Az. I'll send a PM
