On a trip to Athens. Or, should I say stuck in Athens.
In Athens due to Turkish Airlines mistake. Their mistake of getting my birthday off by one day. The resolution was to rebook after another $500 rebooking fee. Not my mistake. Makes no difference. Plus, baggage is NOT free. Costing us nearly $700 for two suitcases.
Avoid Turkish Airlines if at all possible. My rant. MTG

Thanks for the information. I haven’t seen that stunt pulled by airlines yet. Good to know. Sorry for your difficulties.

Iberian Airlines (Spain) is another suspect company, to put it lightly. Beware!

Good luck 🍀 and happy hunting, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

We flew Iberian earlier this year. I thought it was a step up from any of the US carriers. Of course, we didn't have any issues to deal with either.

Things that infuriate for 500 Alex...get home safely

That is an excellent question due to being on my passport that I had to show multiple times. Boggles my mind that frankly ANYONE is in charge. MTG
Did you book the flight yourself or use a travel agent of some kind?

Generally speaking, passenger's personal info is entered by the passenger (or a travel agent if one is involved) prior to booking. That info gets translated to the 'PNR' (Passenger Name Record) that becomes your booking/confirmation/reference # (it's the 6-character code you see, and gets associated to an actual ticket # once issued).

Showing your passport physically is an immigration document check, and they are verifying your PNR matches the information on your ID (passport). So, the info in the system was entered incorrectly at/before booking. If your PNR needs to be modified, the ticket needs to be re-issued, which is what initiated the additional $500 change fee (baggage fees vary by fare type, the lowest fare class is $165/bag on Turkish and more for oversize).

(note: I could see this being an issue if your birth 'day' is <=12 and was entered in the US format (MMDDYYYY) vs the European/Rest of the world format (DDMMYYYY).)

If you did use a travel agent, and they entered your information incorrectly, I'd be contacting them about refunds on the ticket change fees.

Required as ll d as y Wednesday to get ticket cluster “F” straightened out. Turkish Airlines had my birthday one day off. Wanted us to rebook @ $500 each ticket. NO!!!!
Finally had to call travel agent to get all correct. This, after 10 hours of speaking to Turkish Airlines customer rep that had a mouthful of marbles and understood very little English. All done now. Setting in Athens ready to fly to the monster airport in Istanbul for another 4 hours if lines and passport control. Then 13 hour flight to Seattle.
Cannot wait to get home to Montana away from the sea of unwashed, sweating humanity.
If this was a hunting trip my attitude would have been a bit more reasonable. But, keep my bride happy has been the plan. Going to be a LONG time that I ever fly to Europe once again. MTG
