Hello All, I am considering apply for the Wyoming unit 100 spike elk tag. I like this tag for a couple of reasons. 1). the season is fairly long and 2). I've never shot an elk nor had an elk tag. PM replies would be appreciated as I am sure to have a question or two too follow. Thanks in advance, Kevin.

I've seen a fair amount of spikes out there, usually hanging out with the cows outside of the rut. There's so dang many elk out there that you can glass up from a long ways away when they're not bedded down, and they really pile into the WSAs after the shooting and the road hunting hits full tilt.
If you just want to kill an elk though, I'd wouldn't rule out upping your draw odds and going for one of the cow tags. Not sure if the new OG company that bought up a bunch of the checkerboard will allow access as others did in the past, but I imagine there's a good chance they will. That'll be important to know regardless of which route you go.
