Anyone replace trigger springs in Remington 7400 or 7600 rifle?

I have a Remington 7400 30-06 semi-auto that I've had for 35 years. I hate the trigger and it's far from a one MOA rifle, probably closer to 2 MOA. But inside 200 yards it's plenty fine for MOA of deer and puts them on their butt. I just ordered a Thompson Center Compass 300 Win Mag knowing that I will immediately replace the springs in the trigger with a kit from M Carbo. I checked and MCarbo offers a kit for $13.

Timney also offers a kit for Remington 1100 series shotguns but on Midway, they are advertising it as compatible with certain rifles as well including 7400.

Anyone replace the springs in a Remington SemiAuto 7400/7600 and what was your experience?


NOTE: I have a Remington 870 20 gauge pump that is nearly 40 years old and it's an amazing shotgun that has served me well and I still use for dove hunting. Amazing how I've loved one and hated the other and they were bought a few years apart. I would get rid of the 30-06 if wasn't for memories compared to what I would get for it.

It's the same trigger for the 1100s, 870s, 740, 7400, 760, 7600 and maybe the 1187.

The Timney kit makes a big difference.

I’ve used a patriot spring kit in my 760, and it makes a world of difference

I installed the Timmey kit in my 870 turkey gun 2 years ago. It is a significant improvement. Plan to do the same to my 11-87 next winter.

Replaced the spring and sear out of a kit in a friends pump rifle. Super simple.

I ordered a replacement spring from MCarbo today while I was ordering a replacement for my Thompson Center. I'll try that first. Not sure I need the adjustable trigger of Timney for $100 on a $300 rifle.

You will be surprised the difference one spring can make. I have replaced them on a few 742's and 870's. Simple and inexpensive.

Spring was easy to change on T/C Compass. Haven't gotten around to changing spring on 7400 yet but I will. Would be great to resurrect a 30-06. Will still be a light barrel 2 MOA rifle but one place I elk hunt, it's all I need. 200 yard and less for 90% of shots and shouldn't get to the 3rd or 4th shot where you start to get flyers with a hot barrel.
