Anyone else hunt with a .257 Roberts?

I have a browning blr in 257 hasnt been out doors in probably 30 years. Just to damn sweet lookin to get wet . But I will say it was deadly on whitetail

Gun store owner I worked for had us (store staff) go to a Houston gun show to find him a .257 Rbts in Win M54 (forerunner to the M70).
We found 2. Bought the best looking one.
Wanted it for a Canadian moose hunt.
Hunt was a flop.
While packing out, guide stopped the pack train and told him, "There's a small bull over there!" About 250 yards away.
His rifle was packed away. Guide says, "Use mine."
The bull dropped at the shot.
"Nice rifle!" he said to outfitter. "What is it?"
Guide, ".257 Roberts!"

I have one in a Kimberly and amazingly 117 grain round nose shhot better than anything else....go figure

You can still get this from Ruger! Friends helping friends acquire 257 Roberts.

Remington M7MS in .257 Roberts here. 117gr. SGK’s at 2800 fps with 3/4” accuracy - what’s not to love?

Mom killed two elk and only God knows how many deer and caribou with her little Remington 742.
I use a very accurate Ruger #1 with 100 gr Ballistic Tips for antelope and deer. I’ll probably take her to Africa this spring.

My first centerfire rifle was a Herter's .30-06 that I put together in 1967. I used that rifle for everything from prairie dogs to elk for the next 10 years when I had it rechambered to .30 Gibbs, just because I liked the looks of the Gibbs case, for my primary elk rifle.

One of my first hunting partners hunted everything up to elk with his .257 Roberts. When I rechambered my .30-06, I bought a Mauser Mark X .25-06 barreled action and had Les Bauska, a local gunsmith rechamber it to .257 Ackley for my primary deer and antelope rifle, which it still is. I've also used it for just about everything from prairie dogs to elk, and used it for my 3 bighorn rams and Dall ram.

My family has been .257 Roberts fans for 60+ years. Dad's first rifle was a 760 pump that I later shot a black bear and my first buck with when I was 12. Also have a Remington 700 Mtn rifle that has never been shot, a Browning BLR and a Remington 722. We prefer handloaded 117 grain bullets.

I would like to have a 257 Roberts sometime. I think it would make a great deer rifle. Probably go with classic blues and walnut look. Maybe throw my old Leupold gloss on it.

There are many “wishlist” cartridges but only so much money and space.

I have a high country (9,500’) mule deer hunt in early October. I’m contemplating take the Bob instead of my 280ai.

God hasn’t built a mule deer the Bob can’t kill easily. I’d save a pound or so in rifle weight for my backpack.

Here on this forum I transacted a 257 Robert’s from a fellow forum member. It’s in a Kimber model 84. It is extremely light. I am in the currently in the load optimization process for it. With eventuality I hope for it to become my principal rifle for all of my hunts.

Enjoy the load dev! I found that 43.0 gr. of H4350 and a 117 SGK (*2800 fps, 20” bbl) was everything I wanted…and became my standard.

47.0 of H4350 and a 100 gr. SGK worked as well (3000 fps…).

PS: pix? Would love to see that Kimber!
