Had a great weekend of elk hunting, with lots of close calls on big bulls and passed up shots on cows.... really looking forward to next weekend as the rut is starting to get good.

On the way back from elk hunting yesterday afternoon, I made about 7 stalks on antelope , which brings my season total number of stalks to about 40 or so. Hunting these big eyed speedsters in wide open country can be an exercise in frustration, but it is a numbers game. If you make enough stalks eventually one works out. In this case I was able to crawl down a fence line to get into range of this guy while he was distracted by does.

I think this guy is like the 13th or 14th I have been able to take with my bow spot and stalk. The only one I ever killed out of a blind was on a guided hunt with Leupold in Wyoming, and I wouldn't have it any other way..... even if I do have cactus in every square inch of my body.

Now that this guy is in the freezer, I can focus my attention on filling these two elk tags that are burning a hole in my pocket!

Congrats! I've yet to try to spot and stalk an antelope with a bow, but may give it a shot this year.
