My dad lives on a grass strip south of Kalispell and for a while this guy would do flybys until the F4U was sold. We'd hear him self announce on the radio so it was nothing to go out onto the runway and catch him go by. It was scary having him bear down on you at near 350 knots, but awe inspiring to feel the power as he went by and away.
The muscle of these things wouldn't stand a chance against the finesse of modern fighters, but in terms of inspiration muscle wins by a large margin. Wish I could show some of the "good" flybys, but until the statue of limitations runs out this will have to do. Turn up the volume!
