I’m totally new to this part of Montana. The landscape is completely different the access is different the road conditions are different, elk dynamics, you name it…

I was hoping that anyone with ANY info that could be useful may PM me. I’ll update in the future on a different post to not directly link tag numbers— although this tag encompasses like 4.5 districts and an absolute ton of land.

That is a large part of what is driving this thread. I can look 360 degrees around the map and every unit has SOMETHING elky. I’d REALLY like to be able to find elk consistently in the bull mountain area, but private land access may be my only option. If anyone knows a landowner that ISNT leased up, I’d be willing to go knock on the door! Lol

I’ve heard from my native buddies of elk in the priors but numbers seem low. I’ve heard from FWP and one Bio that big snowys have most elk and therefore most competition. One FWP officer pretty much said “start looking for private now or you’re hosed” and a different one gave me two roads to check into. Snowys are still 3 hour drive and I wanted the tag to hung LOCAL bulls. I can go to my old spots if it takes 3 hours! That’s why I’m looking into the bull mountains so hard… anyone with any info, it is MUCH MUCH appreciated.

Will Work For Access 🤪
