45 ruger elk?

Just got a 45 ruger with 9 inch barrel. Dads!! Like to try handgun hunting elk. Has anyone used a scope on a hand gun to hunt? Any recommendations?

I have had scopes on a few handguns - still have one on a 10” Thompson Center Contender in 30-30. For me, a scoped handgun is difficult to shoot without some type of rest. If I were to put an optic on a revolver, I think I would look at a red dot sight - specifically one that did not require that the dot be centered.

Handgun hunting is addicting. Once you get set up just practice in field positions. A lot of range time.

Red dots are the way to go. It will reduce your learning curve.

Ultradot is a good place to look.
