45-70 loads

Hi all,
I'm trying to find some good loads for my 1895GG in 45-70. I just bought some 500 grain, gas checked, hard cast bullets. I would like to move them at somewhere between 1550 and 1800 FPS. Any suggestions?

Try 48 to 52 gr of IMR-3031 - that should work right into the range of velocity you are looking for. Good Luck! Wear your ear protection...

FYI, I always had to single load the 500 gr bullets in my 1895 if I used the crimp groove. You need to keep the COL under 2.56 as I recall.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have to get some more powder, but I was going to Bass Pro anyway. I don't think I will have a feed problem as I have been keeping them at 2.55. We'll see. Going to try it this weekend.
