I just got some 30 caliber, 250 grain Barnes Originals off eBay. I'm going to load them up for my 30-06 just for fun and see how they shoot. Probably won't ever use them for hunting, unless they end up shooting exceptionally tight groups, then I may try them for bear this spring or elk next fall. Just wondering if anybody else has tried these heavyweights. If so, what powder worked best? I have H4350 and H4831 so I'll probably go with one of those. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

WH, those a very long heavy bullets for the caliber. Chances are, unless you've got a barrel with a 1:8 twist, they won't stabilize at all. If they do, I'll be very surprised.

You'll be better off using a slower powder to maximize use of case capacity so I would suggest using the H4831. I would also try a few rounds with magnum primers.

Let us know how they shoot.

I have always had good luck with the barnes originals in both .30 cal and the 180 gr .277". If you don't have any luck with them I'll take them off your hands. I'm down to just 19 bullets.

I have loaded them in the 30-06 but I seldom use a .30-06. The bear that I took on the Sask. hunt was taken with a 250 gr Barnes from a .300 Whby. She hit the ground dead. Heart, lungs, and off shoulder all pretty much shredded.
