Last October, my son(13yr then, 14 now) was walking to the bus stop and was hit by a car at full speed. He was life flighted to the trauma center with a list of injuries. After all the surgeries, he asked me if he was going to be able to walk again..... I told him that he would but it was going to take a couple months. To prove my point, I promised him that we would do something really cool to celebrate. In December he told me he wanted to go elk hunting for the first time. Since we live in Texas, this would be a challenge but I reminded him of states he had points in. We chose Arizona and he was happy to put in for a youth cow hunt. Even though he only had about a 30% to draw, he drew unit 10 for the early October youth season.
Now that he is fully recovered, we went out there a couple weeks ago and spent 5 days scouting the unit and he loved it. He was leaving me behind going up and down the terrain. We feel pretty good about where we will get started for the couple days of scouting before the season and have 8 days of hunting to try and get it done.
I honestly don't know who is more excited between the 2 of us!!! I do know that I hope he has a shot opportunity, but I will be celebrating no matter what. He has taken the past year of obstacles and difficulty with a smile on his face and determination in his heart. That is worth celebrating. This is what hunting is about to me, everything else is just icing on the cake.
Best of luck to everyone this year.

What a great turn of events for a tragic story! Hope you all have a fantastic time and make special memories. After a tough year that you and yours have had this trip will be extra sweet!

Following- 😊

Packed up and just waiting for my son to get out of school. Going to take around 20 hours of driving to get back to the Bo. My brother is coming with us, so at least this trip I will have someone to help with the driving. Seems like it might be a tough hunt this year, but that's okay.
