2026 Garden

Decided that I miss having fresh green beans and corn. Think I'll plant some this year. Eat some and package for the freezer. I just took the dirt/ash "mound" from where I burn my brush pile and spread it over my garden area. I'll till it in once I pick the junk from it and it dries out from the RAIN we're getting! (y)

I just got some of the indoor seeds started. 12 tomato plants (2 cherry, 2 Roma, 4 beefsteak, 4 big boy) 12 peppers (2 dantil, 2 piñata hot peppers, 4 yellow banana, 4 jalapeño) some herbs, cantaloupe, and cauliflower.

I’ll start some lettuce, radishes, garlic, onions, potatoes when it dries out a bit.

Still ice fishing? When’s your average ice out date?
Nope our season closes here from March 31- May 5. We didn’t have as much ice as some winters due to all the snow. I have never measured it at the end of season but I didn’t have to put the extension on this winter. Did see some claiming 36” of ice. The lake I fish average ice out is probably may 10-15. A few years back there was enough ice still that we took quads out on May 5 to go fishing

It will probably be a late one this year. It not till April 13 ish we get any temps that are above freezing. Prior to that we are just flirting with the 0C mark

For those of you who save seeds for next years crop. I started seeds saved from last years tomatoes and seeds purchased this year. Same variety of tomatoes and from the same supplier. The seeds saved from last year have not done well germinating. What gives?

My guess, from Google:

"Missing Fermentation: Tomato seeds have a slimy, gel-like coating containing germination inhibitors. If not fermented (rotted off), the seeds may not germinate efficiently."

I've never saved tomato seeds but ones that rot in the garden have always made lots of volunteers.

Also you want to make sure you save seeds from heirloom or open pollinated varieties, hybrids don't work well for saving seeds.
