Excellent question
27 years for some animals seems excessive. Not condoning, just saying that sounds stiff
Is it? We're talking about law and order. He didn't just kill critters, he lied to law enforcement, destroyed evidence, went out of his way to defraud for the predators. Then posted all on social media where he profited from them. 27 years sounds good. He'll still get off early for good behavior, but need an actual detergent

He stole money from the F4WM and ID&FG. 27 years is ridiculous and it won’t happen. But a year in the poky and lifetime hunting ban I would be happy, just feel real sorry for his kids. Their father is a fraud and succumbed to the “influencer” cancer culture. Who’s next this year, any guesses?

lifetime hunting ban I would be happy
Yes. The fact that this was a grown ass adult doing this clearly for money and to support his influencer "career" showing no regard to laws and wildlife does it for me. Make it known to these people making a living off of public land and resources that this will not be tolerated.

I’m still dumbfounded by this case and action. So much to lose and so little to gain imho. Killing a 175” just isn’t that big of a deal especially considering his body of work. Maybe they were financially struggling. I can’t think of a worse place to live in Montana as far as cost of living. Doing what he was doing you have to know you have a target on your back anyway. Definitely a lot more to this story. Someday I hope he gets the courage to tell it. A lot can be learned from epic falls from grace.

Makes me wonder how many other animals filmed by lampers were harvested with an invalid and/or no tag.
Obviously all of his Washington muleys. Going off the Washington hunting posts I read, there’s no other plausible answer😂. Now a bucket of apples and a gov elk tag is a different deal

I'm 100% against the idea that a lifetime hunting ban is any sort of effective detergent. They're already poachers, why would a ban make any difference? I mean go ahead and stick them with one, but have some meaningful repercussions beyond that

No offense but this argument doesn’t hold any weight, but a lot of people keep using it. What do you suggest? A free lifetime license instead? No ban? Come on. It’s an appropriate add on with the fines and jail time.

Think about it like this. When someone doesn’t hold a hunting license and is out in the woods with a rifle, pack frame, game bags, etc they are obviously hunting and there will be a major issue coming across a fish cop. Driving around with binos out the window and a rifle in the truck, going to be an issue. Poachers (and I’ve known more than a few in the past) always buy a hunting license.

1. Did you read my entire comment? "go ahead and stick them with one, but have some meaningful repercussions beyond that"
2. Do you read the news?

So far his penalty is stiffer than anything I've seen for the Somali fraudsters
  • Mohamed Jama Ismail: Sentenced to 12 years for laundering stolen funds.
  • Mukhtar Shariff: Received 17.5 years for using hospitality groups to launder money.

Both of these two dudes will do more time than Ryan Lampers. I bet he doesn’t even end up sniffing a jail cell.

EDIT: Those are Somali dudes, for those who couldn’t tell by their names.

There were 70+ people that were indicted by the end of 2024, a year before you heard about the cases on tiktok or where ever you get your news. Sentencing still happening for many of them.

And they are getting much stiffer sentences than many of the Medicare and Medicaid fraudsters, many are from Florida. Philip Esformes, Salmon Melgen, Lawrence DUran, Judith Negron, Todd Farha, Rick Scott, John Davis. Several of those cases were were 100s of millions and at least one over a billion.

“I'm 100% against the idea that a lifetime hunting ban is any sort of effective detergent”

You are 100% against it. Which is, well, stupid. The alternative is to let them hold a license and keep hunting. Stupid, duh. Hunting without a license is less prevalent than with one, I’m sure you’d agree to that.

I can cherry pic articles to support any single claim too but I won’t waste more time on this.
