I have to tell you that this format has really made it fun for me. The championship run is very exciting and a bit unpredictable. Most of the games you could see coming, but ND winning caught me off guard. I thought Oregon had more, and really didn't pay attention to Scattebo much until this game.

Welcome to what every other NCAA sport - including FCS football - have known for 50 years. The old bowl system is a dinosaur.

I’m sure I’m in the minority but I absolutely disagree. We had an entire round of terrible games, tv ratings back that. It’s rare that there would be 8 teams that should realistically play for a national title, much less 12 or the 16 that we’re probably headed for. I don’t want Cinderella in the playoffs, I want to see the best on best. It shouldn’t be about inclusion and who “deserves” a chance.

Ok, lets say it was just 4 teams picked like in years past. Your playoff field of 4 would have been: 1=Oregon, 2=Georgia, 3=Texas and 4=Penn St.

Only Texas and Penn St. remain and both Oregon and Georgia got their butts kicked by a team you are claiming was just "deserving a chance".

I agree that from the 12 teams, there are a few that fell flat.

Boise State was clearly not of the same caliber and seemed outmatched however Jeanty was shut down and that was their team. So either props to Penn St. or shame on Jeanty and the O line for not showing up to play.

SMU got man handled by Penn St. Is it coincidence that both of these teams that fell flat faced Penn St. and maybe Penn St. is just that good? We will see but they sure do look tough to beat. #44 is a beast.

Indiana. They only got here because for the first 3/4 of the season they played crappy teams although in a good conference. I didn't like Indiana getting in to the playoffs in the first place and it showed. Notre Dame made easy work of that sub par team.

I don’t mind the 8 and no byes but I don’t think there would have been anything wrong with the 4 either (I do think they would be seeded differently for the games). I agree on Indiana, winning and strength of schedule have to be taken into account. The regular season should also matter. Ohio State is absolutely one of the most talented teams in the country but you need to show up every week, they’re safe in the 8 anyway.

But it is right for the NCAA to think about the fun of the whole season - the more schools that think they might be team 12 or team 16 makes the whole regular season more fun and interesting. Hundreds of more games will be relevant and the only cost is one first week of playoffs that may be sub-optimal. And easy choice. Go with 16. Given the top 8 home playoff games. Shut down all the bowl games.

I could get behind that plan if getting away from all those bowls was an option but we are adding games, not subtracting. This isn’t about football, what’s fun or better games, it’s about money.

I think boise and some other non power conference schools can gain ground this way though. Boise would have been in this several years in a row - and would have probably only grown in talent.

I like this system because it gives 12 teams a chance to prove it. If we matched up 1 and 2 like bcs days - we would have got 2 teams that got manhandled.

No. College football is regional. It would become entirely southern or midwestern in a hurry without some way to keep other conferences in.

Or the other conferences would pick up the pace. NIL could really help the Northeast and West Coast as way more disposable income for supporters to throw at football in those areas.

I think conference champs should still get a shot. But going off this year, ASU and BSU didn't deserve the buy. Top 4 ranked teams get a buy, keep the 12 team playoff with home field 1st round. My .02

All the talk about jeanty - he looked outstanding against oregon.... Players have bad games based on matchups sometimes too. Boise state was over matched by PSU up front on both sides of the ball by a big margin jeanty couldnt overcome. It happens, even to great players - Barry sanders made a career of it in the nfl.

Skatteboo didnt put up 100 on texas tech or texas state.

Was surprised to see the line on ND/PSU has ND -1.5. Heck, IU got within 10 pts.
