Hello,
I've been folowing this forum for a few years. I've called region 3 bear specialist a few times but have'nt heard back. I'm currently living in Bozeman going to MSU and killed a bear last fall in the Gallatins's but it was more of the right time in the right place with a tag in my pocket. My Sister is coming up from Colorado to go black bear hunting with me this year May 15th, I'm looking at heading towards Poloson but have little to no experience black bear hunting. I know it's mostly help others to get help but I'm newer to hunting with more self experience to know enough to help others. Any advice or suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I grew up in Polson and it is smack dab in the middle of the Flathead Indian Reservation, and unless you are an enrolled member of their tribe you cannot hunt. Its too bad because there are a TON of bears in the Mission Mountains. This includes Grizzlies. If I were you, I would focus my attention further northwest up near Troy or Libby. Or even better head down the Thompson River and pick a drainage heading east back towards the reservation boundary. Just be sure you are super aware of the boundary, you don't want to get caught up with the tribal game wardens. Trust me.
