Offroad vehicle enthusiasts found 11 wild burros shot to death on public land north of Morgan City Wash near Lake Pleasant, Bureau of Land Management authorities said Monday.
The carcasses were found over the weekend by off-road vehicle riders in the area.

"We are investigating this crime, and we want people with information to call us," BLM Supervisory Ranger Patrick Brasington said in a news release.

A $5,000 reward is being offered, and anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-637-9152.
The incident occurred within the last week on public lands north of the metro area where the BLM manages a naturally-occurring wild burro heard of 280.

Brasington said the burros, which included a Jennie and several Jacks and colts, were found in an area that is accessible by ATVs, four-wheel drive or on foot.

The BLM's National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board is scheduled to meet in Reno, Nev., next Monday. According to the bureau's website, the agenda includes discussion on the management, protection, and control of wild horses and burros on Western public rangelands.

Wild burro makes great tacos... I've been told. I think that HEARD is located around Oatman, AZ. It's interesting to see the burros walking around in the middle of town.

Might be for some, but definitely not for me. Though I work for the agency that manages wild horses and burros, I'm far from a fan of them.

Have you read the article regarding wild horses in the new National Geographic? If not you should :D.....

According to them more wild horses are killed around my hometown than anywhere else

I think my wife just subscribed to Nat Geo, so hopefully I'll get that issue. If not I'll look it up at the library. Horses definitely add a 'unique' challenge to managing public lands...

My dad helps round them up each year. We have broke a couple of them. Sure are good horses. The last one we broke was one we bottle fed. Its mother died when they were rounding them up.

If I move back to Wyoming I'm planning on getting 3-4 of them. They are great mountain horses and the price is right. All it takes is time and a few broken bones/ribs here and there.
