    Grandpa's Guns II

My dad has one of those JC Higgins and a couple of boxes of paper shells with it, 16 gauge I believe. He used it a lot when he was young, but it hasn't been shot in probably 30 years now.

Is it a top bolt release or bottom bolt release? The inletting and trigger guards are different between top bolt release and bottom bolt release.

    New guy from GA

**Edit** A couple hours after making 11 posts I had the ability to send PMs. Does anyone know how many posts I need before I can start a thread or send PMs? I see a banner at the top of the screen when I log in that says 10 posts, but that doesn't appear to be correct as I'm over 10 posts now...

    Gunsmithing Book Recommendations

Firearm Blueing and Browning by R. H. Angier is good for traditional bluing recipes and techniques. And several armorers manuals exist for specific firearms, I've used manuals for Remington 700, Glock and M16/M4/AR15 at work several times over the years.

    New guy from GA

Right now it's mostly local, Bryan and Effingham counties. The WMA in Bryan County is mostly oaks and some marsh. Ft Stewart has a little bit of everything, lots of pines, oaks and a lot of cypress swaps with the Ogeechee and Canoochee Rivers flowing through it. I have some family in Decatur...

    New guy from GA

Are there any good public lands to hunt on down there? The only places near me are WMA tracts and Ft. Stewart. The WMA tracts are well managed but always crowded and Ft. Stewart isn't managed very well, most of the areas are overgrown. I've been trying to find some well managed land close to...

Help me pick out a new stock

I've used three Boyds stocks, two Prairie Hunter and one Heritage. One stock was for a modified receiver and required a bit of fitting for the recoil lug and barrel, the two unmodified receivers dropped right in. And depending on color choice, be mindful. I ordered one of the stocks in...

    Burris Warranty Tested

It's good to hear Burris is good with their warranty. I have an RT6 that I need to contact them about, it will not adjust on elevation. Thankfully my other Burris scopes are fine, the Euro Diamond is going strong at 20 years.

How does the PM work in this forum

Are we still talking about cheese and Scotch to get post numbers up? Cheese would be sharp cheddar and scotch would be Speyside and Highlands. I've only tried one Lowland, it wasn't bad at all, but I still preferred the Speysides and Highlands.

    Question about savage axis

@7mm08mo, I know this is an old post, but did you finish the barrel swap? I know a few have already stated it, but you certainly can. I'm working on a Axis II based project right now. It started as a 7mm-08 and it's going to be 8mm Mauser (7.92×57mm) when I'm finished.
