    Use Enough Gun

    Growing up in Southern Illinois this was always my preferred shot if available with slug gun. Nothing turns the lights out like a good neck shot. Positive side effect it usually doesn't spook any other deer in the same group for filling multiple tags.

    Online it said available at the great falls store but when I got there they said they dont carry zeiss at that store. Just checked online and they dont show the sale anymore either.

    My problem is I need the scope now for the smith to contour the bolt to fit. Downside of procrastination but how it goes I guess. Right now I'm debating going full crazy and getting an nxs 2.5-10 or shv 3-10. Trying to cap myself at 20ish ounces.

    If the 3-9 were actually available I’d have them in the running as well. Emailed Swfa and they had no help for when backorders would be filled and I need a scope now to send to the smith to fit the bolt handle too

    I went to every store in great falls today trying to get hands on with different scopes. Leupold/Vortex was everywhere, found a 5-25 shv, z5 Swarovski, few nx8. No trijicon or zeiss, and my local scheels said they can’t even order nxs anymore. So so much for not buying something sight unseen.

    If the ocular on the trijcon wasn't so huge I'd have probably gone that route by now. Waiting to hear back if the smith can do anything to make more clearance but I doubt there's much they can do. May have to look around for a used nxs 2.5-10 or something I guess. Which NF you running?

    Should say too I’m hoping Melvin’s folks can modify the bolt handle but clearance is very tight even with higher rings! Another plus Leupold has with smaller oculars.

    17 HMR Tube Fed Bolt Action

    I had a savage b17 for a while and was never so happy to ditch those garbage rotary mags and go to the Ruger rotary. I also approve and love my Ruger precision rimfire in 17hmr. Not pretty but shoots well enough I over look that.

    Not sure if you'll get a tube fed 17 outside of a lever gun. I can however strongly recommend ruger rotary mag 17s. Head and shoulders over savage single stack and rotary mags.

    Trying to rechamber a botched 30-06 improved

    I was looking at this and thinking a little more. What’s the chances a rechamber and open bolt face to 300h&h would clean it up? Something relatively more available and not much of a recoil step up from 30-06? Also seems like 300h&h would keep with the classy old spirit of the rig
