I purchased one a few years ago when I moved back to Ohio. I really like mine compared to the shot gun slug. Mine is a 1-1.5" gun with factory, and sub 1" with hand loads. With the woods I hunt, no opportunity at extended ranges, but I have taken several from 40-80 yards with no tracking...
I got a pair of the 16X Sigs and love them for handheld glassing or off a tripod in the wind. Where I was disappointed was in the Wisconsing woods out of the stand. The field of view is to narrow. I am contemplating saving up over the summer and get one of the lower power ones. The image...
This is pretty close to what I did for my 300 Weatherby, it was much more accurate below max, but still a slightly compressed load. I am giving up some speed (50fps vs max) but the accuracy was better. It was much easier that messing with seating depth.
I would clean the heck out of it...
Amazing story, hits home with me. Make sure you make as many memories with your Dad as you can. My dad passed away this year and I will be taking his rifle on my next antelope or deer hunt.
I have the Cabelas version, and not a huge fan of it. The pockets don't close well, and have to put the water bottles in the game pouch in the back. It is works for the hot weather, but should have spent the money on a better one.
Good buddy of mine has the Ruger American with the Leupold setup for the 450 Bushmaster. He has had it for a number of years, and has been very successful with it out to 200 yards on Ohio whitetails. The recoil is manageable for his boys (now 14 and 16), but with the brake, it sucks to be in...
I went to the local range this past weekend. There was a father and young son working with a 300 Blackout AR with a suppressor. Crazy how quite it was. Got talking with the dad, his son had issues with the sound not the recoil out of a 223 AR. Went to the 300 blackout and suppressed with...
When Ohio made the switch a number of years ago, I ended up with a Winchester XPR 350 legend. Ammo here is readily available. It has done the trick on a number of Ohio whitetails. I have shot the 450 Bushmaster a number of times and it would be a good choice as well, but the 350 is much...
I saw a group off 83 going north into Pierre is as far east as I have seen them. I also saw a few on the West shore of Lake Oahe up by Mobridge a few years ago.
I have used Tom Stuck at After the Hunt in Antigo Wi, he did an amazing job on my rug (and ducks). I drove over from the Red Wing area to have him do the work.
