    I would skip the mid season hunt. I had that last year and it was a battle with spike hunters. Also, its usually very hot and bulls aren't very active.

    Zion is the best IMO but they haven’t gave out tags to non residents the last couple years. You get some big rams that stumble out of ZNP. Plus limited tags obviously creates some big ones. Chad Mendes big ram a few years ago is from there.

    First time DIY Elk Hunting - First Rifle CO - help greatly appreciated

    I've hunted it once before. A lot of the elk I was seeing were hanging out in the fields by Salida. I'd watch the elk to come out of the fields and onto BLM/FS land. That's how I tagged out. Hope this helps!

    As others have said sitting water is a good idea. Especially with how dry it should be this year. Elk won't have many choices on where to water.
