    Accessing Private Land

I'm from Idaho Falls and the unit is here in southeast Idaho. Honestly, I'd be willing to travel though.

    Accessing Private Land

I bought a whitetail only tag here in Idaho. The tag allows me to hunt with archery equipment during the rut. The unit I want to hunt is heavily private agricultural land but there are sections of blm. There is a really nice river flowing through the unit. I am looking at hunting agricultural...

    Elk Studies

I've been reading a ton of elk studies that are produced by fish and game or Universities. What is the best way to find more studies? I've been using google scholar mainly. Also, if anybody has a study that they like, please drop a link. Some of these studies have incredibly useful information...

How much does technology play a role in your hunting/scouting?

I use google earth and onx almost everyday. Google earth allows me to find places to focus on. I then go out scouting and see if it is an area worth hunting. It also allows me to find good glassing spots, how to get away from roads, and access points. Marking waypoints on onx is so useful. With...

Harvest statistics and choosing a unit.

I wouldn't pay too much attention on year-over-year changes. I like to take each statistic and do a 5 year average. I also don't rely on harvest success % because most hunters aren't hunting like I do. It's also nice to see, on average, how many days hunters spend in the field. Unpublished...

Is the price of gas hindering your out-of-state or in-state hunt plans?

Honestly, it won't change my hunting plans at all. It might change how much scouting I do though. Maybe it's time to donate plasma for extra gas money. #adaptimproviseovercome

What do you do with your old bows?

I keep mine. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to hunting gear and firearms. I always have my backup bow in my truck during archery season.

    Idaho Elk Zone Update

As most of you know IDFG instituted a cap for each zone for non-resident elk tags. Just wanted to see if you guys noticed less hunting pressure? Do you feel like the NR cap had a positive effect on pressure? I will say that I thought the Lemhi zone seemed less busy.

Thanks for sharing! I love seeing Idaho bulls.

you got the "big bull" tag?

I'm really impressed. You drew a "big bull" tag but didn't take it easy and assume it would be handed to you. I get bull fever and shoot the first bull I possibly can but you held out and harvested a great bull. Nice work!

    2021 Idaho Draw Results!

Struck out on my deer and antelope tag but drew my elk tag. Tag is valid from October 1 - October 31, any weapon, antlered only. Hoping to hit it hard before the general deer season starts on October 10th and more hunters move into the area. I have been camping in the area multiple times but...

Obtaining Information from Fish and Game

Hey Guys, I recently finished reading through Idaho's 5 year mule deer management plan. It has some good information but it isn't at all specific. If I was interested in obtaining information for a specific unit, how would I go about that? Obviously, I could call IDFG and ask but I don't want...

    2021-2022 proposals

I like the changes to the unlimited antelope archery tags being 1st choice only. In theory, this would drastically reduce the amount of blinds out in the field. Hopefully it will improve the draw odds of some of the rifle controlled hunts as well. Eliminating antlerless harvest for mule deer was...

SE ID rut, weak or strong?

Probably not a helpful response but it depends on the year. I hear bugles every September but some years it is more frequent than others. I focus less on calling and more on the need of elk. Bulls follow cows during that time but the cows generally stick to the area where they can fill their...

    MT elk hunting

A lot of good advice so far. I use google earth to help identify good glassing spots (this is especially useful if you are hunting after the rut.) When you get in the area, you can have 3 or more spots to check out that you picked on Google Earth. Obviously, Google earth can sometimes paint an...
