One could only dream! At the MWSF banquet this year 2 hunts for bears on the rez went for $13k each (i would never pay that). There are some brutes over there.
I mowed my lawn here in Billings and two days later I had 5 inches of snow on it. I missed my windows to hunt the "close" bear hunt this spring. The unit always closes early but man felt super fast this year.
I do it the same way you do it with guns with a hinged floor plate. With my guns that shoot AICS mags I just load them as far out as I can with them still feeding. Usually the mag is the limiting factor. At least in my experience.
@coleL have you pulled the trigger on one yet? I have had one tikka and it was a dud but I think that was a misnomer.
I switched to a bergara and have loved them. Easy to find accessories, great triggers and awesome barrels. The only down side is most of them are HEAVY but it makes them easy...
This is really the exact thing I needed to hear. It sounds very similar to mule deer in the lower 48. I have really put a stop to shooting them unless I see a good buck. I am fortunate to be able to have above average success with elk to fill the freezer.
ATP I may just switch gears completely...
I have made multiple posts and comments on this. I have been trying to to a caribou trip with my wife for 6 years now and every time I think its going to happen either availability disappears or prices go up. Unless I am missing something to do a non haul road hunt for caribou it will be roughly...
Life happens. Here I am 5 years later still in the planning portion of this hunt. I feel from what I have read and seen over the last 5 years the caribou population has tanked. So I figured I would ask again and see what @Bambistew and @BayouBengal or anyone else had to say.
I have done the...
I take it back on the good pricing. I switched it to Aug/September (like i should have to begin with) and it was not a number I was prepared for. AK hunts are like point creep to me. Everytime I think that I can afford it one portion of the trip doubles in price. Is $3500 to $4000 really what a...
Any experience with Alaska 4X4's their website says they are okay with gravel roads and the prices were pretty cheap. I just don't know if there is a catch that I am missing.
Speaking of this. Did the proposal to shut the general season down at the end of October get killed? I liked the idea of October being general and then needing to draw to get a November rut hunt tag.
I switched to 4831sc (in my 7 mag) because I couldn't find any other vihtavuori powders available. I pretty much got the same results as my RL26 loads.
It has been hit on quite a lot in this thread but don't underestimate how much fun you can have on a cow hunt. I have been hunting elk in Montana for 16 years and 80% of the elk I have killed were cows and spikes. In the first 10 years I LUCKED into two cows. I was happy to see elk 5 miles away...
My 7 Mag really likes H4831SC with 168 bergers. I however don't like the bergers.
Also I was also using RL26 for my loads until the powder stopped being made. Now I have a half pound that I have no use for.
I had tried the turret tags. But I think that regardless of the sticker it's not going to work with the Gen 1 Viper that I have. Just to way the turret is set up scrapes them off.
