Old truck appreciation (and high mileage)

The raider has pretty much been claimed by my daughter at this point but its got more room than the Sammi and is a little easier to get places than the 84 in the background.

87 Samurai... you cant fit anything more in it than a bagged lunch but its a great little rig for the mountains.

    Kitchenaid Stand Mixer maintenance

I cant recall the guy but there is a fella on youtube that does some great maintenance vids on the Kitchenaid. I tore mine down a few years ago and did everything I needed to on it using those. The adjustments are fairly straightforward and using the dime trick he talks about in the bowl for the...

Help, I need a new pronghorn rifle!

I am a dyed in the wool 270 guy. They are hard to beat for about everything you can think of in the lower 48 with the proper ammo. But I don't really like them in anything under a 24 inch barrel. Critters don't know the difference in the few inches but its a mental thing for me. I love a 308...

What would the pattern be like using a 50 cal rifle as a shotgun

No choke and with the rifling you will basically have the best one shot grouse gun ever made for shots out to about 5 or ten yards... even with a shot cup the rifling is going to eat it up before it leaves the muzzle. Best bet is to get online and order a smoothbore barrel for it. If its the...

    Taking my life back

As far as the sleep apnea stuff. I had no clue I even had it... chalked being tired all the time even though Im in pretty good shape to just being 42 and working a high stress job. My wife suggested I get a sleep study... long story short after getting used to wearing it I could wake up in the...

I'm Trying to Decide on a New All Around Rifle.

Another vote on the Tikka. Lots of new bullets to choose from for the 270 that really bring an already great cartridge to a new level. Especially if you're a reloader. I am biased however by the fact I am a big fan of the old workhorse. She just gets the job done.

    Best Reusable Game Bags?

another vote here for Caribou bags. Been using mine for several years and have no complaints at all. Still going strong. Packed out several deer and bear and one elk with them.

Savage Model 11 Youth LH 7mm-08

man... had I seen this post last week you would have been shipping it to my neck of the woods. I just bought the same setup for my southpaw daughter. Good price on that setup by the way!

Canoe Hunting for Deer, Antelope, Elk, Moose, Grouse & Geese.

His hooves make him look like a old man but my best guess is around 3.5, Where he lived was pretty much straight up and down and rocky. I think he may have torn himself up pretty good chasing does around that mountain during the rut. I killed a older buck back in there around 5 years ago who...

Canoe Hunting for Deer, Antelope, Elk, Moose, Grouse & Geese.

Its a Hoyt Buffalo with 50lb limbs. Great shooting bow very forgiving and easy to adjust.

Canoe Hunting for Deer, Antelope, Elk, Moose, Grouse & Geese.

these new HDPE and plastic boats dont hold a candle to the royalex boats. I wish they would allow someone to start making them again with that recipe. I have had several dozen canoes over the years made from everything to fiberglass, wood, aluminum even a canvas one at one time and as far as all...

Canoe Hunting for Deer, Antelope, Elk, Moose, Grouse & Geese.

I do a lot of canoe hunting. Not necessarily out of one but to get to areas I otherwise could not reach. The one below is a ultralight Northstar Northwind Solo great little boat to get in and out of places. I use it for the Boundary waters and lakes. If I am floating down into public land on...

    Let’s see them camps!

I think these are Virginia, Wyoming, Minnesota BWCA, Adirondacks and the UP. One things for sure. Every place I have ever made camp had something special about it. One of these days I need to dig out the old hard photos shot on disposable cameras and a couple of external hard drives and make a...

Mountain Rifle Caliber? Ya- I know...

Sounds like a dream of a rifle. Ive always had a soft spot for Sako rifles. I have one I have similar feelings about. Its a Ruger RSI Mannlicher in 308. She is a dream to carry and comes to the shoulder like a well fitted shotgun. Weights around 6.5lbs with a fixed 6 Leupold. Its one rifle I...

Mountain Rifle Caliber? Ya- I know...

with that weight goal... the 7-08. I have a love hate relationship with ultralight rifles. But at the end of the day. You carry a rifle a lot more than you shoot it. Unfortunately for me I have had more quirkiness out of all but one ultralight rifle I own with them being finicky on what they...

    Sunday Pic of the Day

I have one of those in a 308 also. Wonderful rifle. My uncle gave it to me probably 30 years ago. Shoots a plain jane 150gr Core-Loct really well.

    Fish Fry

peanut oil is the way to go. Lard and Tallow works too but gives it different flavor. As far as the fish goes... depends on the fish. You can make a good breading with cornmeal a small amount of flour and some paprika, black pepper, garlic powder onion powder and seasoning salt all mixed...

    Home purchase

We built ours in 2016 on a decent amount of acreage. After reading this I looked up what my house is worth just to entertain myself. I live in the middle of nowhere and it blows my mind somebody would be willing to pay what they actually say its worth. I think we had maybe 188000 in it up to the...
