I archery hunted elk there last year. Yep there’s elk literally everywhere. I was in multiple bulls multiple times everyday. If you want a good camp spot I’d be glad to share. It’s about 45 minutes down a gravel road by truck but I didn’t see another elk hunter there the whole week. I pretty...
I elk hunted 34 last year. It’s hard to tell you how many deer were in my area because well, I was elk hunting and making lots of noise but I saw mule deer doe everyday multiple times a day. Had them in camp several times. Didn’t see any bucks but I’m sure they were around. Be glad to send you...
I can’t wait. With it being my first elk hunt I might pass on anything small the first couple days, but only because of the quality of that unit. But I’m really not gonna be that picky
You weren’t far off. She said some of the really good elk units like the Valle Vidal are like that. They only sell bear tags in those places as an add on to your elk tag

I saw that. It says that unit is otc for bears. But on another thread a guy said it was otc only if you had a valid elk tag. But thanks for the info. I’ll call the number and find out I guess
So I drew a elk tag for 2nd archery unit 34 this year. It looks like bear tags are otc in that unit. But I’ve heard that you must have a valid elk tag to buy one if the bear tags. My buddy is tagging along on my elk hunt and was hoping to get a bear tag just in case. But I can’t find anymore...
I did have one more question I’m getting conflicting answers for. Can I camp anywhere in the national forest or do I have to be in a designated camping area?
Thanks. Lol. I’ve been on onxmaps constantly looking for good spots. This was my first year ever putting in for any draw and I got elk and mule deer tags. Also my first year ever hunting outside of Texas. It’s intimidating. I just didn’t know if one area in that unit was any better than another.
