    Any hockey fans out there?

Congrats to the 'Canes. Now we approach the best part of the hockey season as we all rebuild our hope and expectations before half of us are disappointed by Christmas. ;)

    Social security by the numbers

I’m not going to relitigate economic history. The simple summary is no President has addressed the problem during their first term because they want a second. Same with Congress. Those senators elected this November will be in office for the cuts. Your avoidance of admitting the Repubs want it...

    Social security by the numbers

Maybe, but "punting" isn't a great word for it. Clinton only had Dem control in the first two years and we were in the middle of a recession. He finally got around to it in 1999 but the idea never went anywhere (see link- i'm not sure it's a great solution but it was never really debated). A...

    Social security by the numbers

Like I said, update your retirement plan because it will get worse. Health Care businesses can't really take a 10-15% cut in Medicare payouts because a lot of them are already in the red. Retirees will need supplemental insurance. I don't even want to think of those in need of assisted living. I...

    Social security by the numbers

No. You need to learn how to use google. Changes in 1980's helped. The Boomers saw their future reality. We need something similar now. Here is a start. Social Security Enhancement and Protection Act of 2025 (I think there was one in 2023 too) and Social Security Guarantee Act are still sitting...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I should add that I think retail allocations in IPOs will increase. A lot of institutional portfolios already own the stocks in their private placement/venture allocations so they are probably less willing to buy more at the IPO. I guess we will know in pretty short time.

    Social security by the numbers

SS is its own program. Money in, and money out. It's not a "both sides" problem. There are occasional dumb ideas from Dem's but it is clearly caused by the side that hates the concept of a security net and is so against taxes it doesn't want to keep it funded to meet obligations. Reasonable...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I think GoA pointed this out, you don't get to do it for long. They don't like flippers. And in the end, you might not get enough shares to make a huge impact on your portfolio. Not all IPOs go up. Setting that initial price can be more difficult than you would think (UBER comes to mind). Hard...

    Social security by the numbers

Some of us are closer. Lol. The bigger problem is the Medicare fund will be cut shortly after. Medical Insurance will be a huge cost in retirement, even more so now. That will blow up everyone’s model that doesn’t plan to work until death.

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

IPOs are fascinating processes and all are different. There was one company that went to retail (I can’t remember the name but think it was a cloud company) that gave retail brokers an allocation and told them to allocate it based on proportional orders. In that case someone may have gotten 1...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

No, not really. Maybe there were allocations to large brokerage houses at The $135 price and they gave some to their “best” retail clients. Think 8-9 figure accounts. Average joe has to buy it at market price.

AI tips, tricks, faults, and failures

You mean it isn't cheaper to put them in space? LOL. I asked AI about that estimate and it agree it needs context. The estimate was for a 10-50 prompt conversation that lead to the 100-word email.

Oops. Should have said NEW. I edited. Either way, just using over two cups of water in 20seconds would push the limits of physics. There has to be other uses in that number.

Updates on Social Security. Please cut the estimated payments in your retirement model. Good luck everyone. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/06/09/social-security-trustees-report-depletion-dates.html

AI tips, tricks, faults, and failures

Most of the new data centers are closed loop so the water never leaves the system. That water number is way too high at baseline, but they are getting more efficient at water and energy (although electricity prices are not showing it).

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Open indications put the price at $160. Any guesses on closing price? Below $160? $160-180? Above $180?

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Will it matter in 10-20yrs? No. The problem most people face is that they think they have a plan but can't follow it. I have given this advice before on this same thread - just put it to work and eliminate the worry. If you put it to work at 1pm EST today you look like a genius.LOL. If you want...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I given them shit because they publish multiple podcasts every week and all of them have a disclaimer about it not being investment advice. Just noise I guess.

Dollar cost average it means put in a little on a regular schedule.

    American prairie. What's the issue?

The latter. There are no consequences. I see that Daines had to chime in with his two cents. Maybe he doesn't think his political career is over.
