    Bitterroot Mule Deer 261/270

I have a photo but it's not mine to share, and the info I provided is as specific as I'll be. The best way to address access nerves is scouting my friend! Learn the unit well, put boots on the ground all summer and fall, do the tag justice.

    Bitterroot Mule Deer 261/270

Dude what a draw - looking at gohunt you had less than 1% odds??? Should be a great hunt, buddy of mine shot a really nice buck in there on public a few years ago. The biggest bucks down there are usually killed on private, but with effort you can find mature bucks cruising the public land in...

Taxidermist Nightmare - need serious advice

I agree and have no issue telling all now. I was hesitant at first just out of internet privacy concerns, and then while I was talking to lawyers I wanted to keep things private. Also, I was told by FWP Justin has been under investigation by FWP (may still be, idk).

Taxidermist Nightmare - need serious advice

Sorry to hear it. I can't remember how much I've updated here, but Justin Sabol finally confessed last year that my bear hide is long gone. He had a BS story, who knows how or why it disappeared. I have four years of texts and voicemails from him lying to me about the hide, and I showed up to...

    Howdy from NW MT

Welcome! Love NW MT. Make sure you can properly identify Sasquatch before pulling the trigger during Spring Black Bear season.

    OnX going away?

This is common market research tactics on the competitive landscape.

    Idaho unit 66, 66A

I've hunted those units pretty hard and every year was surprised at the pressure. We would backpack in several miles and still run into multiple groups of hunters every day, campfires all over at night. Don't even mess with the front country, it's an ATV free for all.

Retrieval of game from private land in Montana

Similar to others, I have not experienced this but a friend did a few years ago in western Montana. Bull Elk he shot with a bow ran to private and died. Hunter was denied permission, then returned with a warden to plea for access again, and the landowner denied again. Big bull, not sure if the...

    What are you currently reading?

The Son, by Philipp Meyer! Holy Hera what a book! From the very first page I realized I was in for a hell of a read, and I immediately felt the inspiration Meyer takes from Cormac McCarthy, one of my favorite authors. This book is as if McCarthy, Larry McMurtry, and S.C. Gwynn's Empire of the...

Long shot - wondering if anyone can identify this Painting / Artist? (SOLVED)

Ran across these paintings in a hospital lobby here in Montana, but can't find them online, and not sure what this artist signature says. Hospital staff had no idea. Thanks! Nevermind, just found it on another source! It's 'A New Day' by Roy Kerswill

Grizzly Bear Deterrents while Backpack Camping (increased safety while sleeping)

It works! Seriously I’ve done this so many times. Squirrels sound like demons at night. Ignorance is bliss.

Grizzly Bear Deterrents while Backpack Camping (increased safety while sleeping)

Good advice and I have a pile of images just like this! But yeah like you said, can't really operate that way during bow season.

Great advice here, I need to think more about these tactics

Yeah we bring powerbanks and I have a Dark Energy solar panel so we'd be good to go.

That looks great. I’ve looked at these but hadn’t seen this particular brand. Might have to happen.

Grizzly Bear Deterrents while Backpack Camping (increased safety while sleeping)

Campsite selection when considering griz safety vs what we typically look for is a great point - totally different criteria. I like the idea of using natural barriers to camp entry, maybe even some make-shift tree walls if we have the time or know we’re going to be in one spot for a while. I’m...

Grizzly Bear Deterrents while Backpack Camping (increased safety while sleeping)

Hey folks! Experienced backpack hunter here in Montana and Idaho, often in pretty serious Griz country. I don't plan on not doing this any time soon, but every dang year there seem to be more and more serious Griz incidents in or near my hunting areas. In the last ten years my hunting crew has...
