I forgot about this thread.
We had a fun hunt and filled all of our tags....same as every other DIY antelope hunt I've done. I'd say it was about what I would want for the amount of points it took to draw the tag. From now on I don't plan to chase points. I think a fun antelope hunt can be had...
Thanks for the info.
I've hunted unit 22 as a 2nd choice a couple times while trying to build a few points. They sell a ton of tags and there's very little public ground in that unit. We didn't have much trouble filling our tags, but im hoping 72 is a lot better than 22.
I'll be using OnX and...
A buddy and I are taking our wives on their first antelope hunt this year in unit 72. I have hunted antelope a handful of times, but never been to this part of the state.
We will be driving out from Missouri and tent camping on BLM ground and hunting the opener on 9/15. Do any of you have some...
I use a boning knife made by Big Chris. There's no good reason to spend a bunch of money on a boning knife, but you're not going to find anything better.
I killed my antelope within an hour and was harassed by a rancher who wanted to act like he owned all the BLM ground around his place. Good times!
Make sure you have onx and use the tracker feature.
We will debone our meat, keep it in coolers and keep the water drained. If we're able to kill a deer big enough to shoulder mount we will have a local taxidermist cape and freeze it until we're ready to leave, but it will have to be pretty big.
I really enjoy tent camping, but we are well set...
I plan on shooting the first antelope buck i see so we can focus mainly on deer. We will be tent camping and very mobile, not set on one area. I'll have 10 days total.
A buddy and I are heading out to Montana from Missouri at the end of this month, planning on being there Halloween morning. We both have general deer tags and I have a region 7 antelope tag.
We are going to hunt the southeast corner the first couple days, hoping to fill my antelope tag quickly...
I have a handful of big game rifles, and my weatherby vanguard sporter in 257 weatherby is probably the most consistently accurate factory rifle of the bunch.
They are one of the best values on the market in my opinion.
