What gender antelope WG&F home page

That was an insanely helpful question for new antelope hunters. Helpful responses too. Thanks for the thread.

Necessary gear for first western hunt.

A tripod with a piece to put your binos on it for glassing is nice. I also carry a v piece for a shooting if I need it. And that’s not much weight. Other than that a good pair of boots, and a decent backpack. Get the boots super broken in and make your adjustments to your gear after this trip. I...

Thoughts After My First Western Hunt

I finished my first western hunt about a week ago, which had good and bad moments. My cousin went on the hunt too, but he did not have a tag, he was just going for the experience. The scenery driving up the mountain the first day was awesome, but I did not expect it to be so cold in the middle...

    WY Gen Muley tags

I put in for an E general tag for my first western hunt this year (I'm from Illinois). From what I saw, it had good success rates. If you end up getting E, shoot me a PM and I can tell you what I have been told from others on this site, and what I have found from researching the area.

Sighting in rifle once in hunting area

We'll be there a day early so I'll do some looking around and try to find a range in the area. I don't really want to shoot around where we'll be camping because I think there is an elk season that ends the day before deer season starts, so I don't want to be shooting in the area with that going on.

Sighting in rifle once in hunting area

That was my thought on the issue, which is why I found it weird that you would shoot it out there, especially if you're driving and make sure it doesn't get bumped.

Sighting in rifle once in hunting area

I wonder how far you can shoot at the shooting range in Sparta. they have a rifle range there, I'm just not sure how long it is.

Sighting in rifle once in hunting area

That's a good, straight forward answer.

Sighting in rifle once in hunting area

I was talking to a guy at work and he said I would have to shoot my rifle to check and see if its sited in once I get to Wyoming since it will be a different elevation than I will be shooting it here in Illinois. He hunted private land in Colorado, so he was able to do this easily. I didn't know...

Anyone hunting or hunted Unit 24

I was talking about Wyoming, that probably would have helped to include that. Google earth for where I am from in Illinois will show my truck in my driveway, but for the area I am looking at hunting there, I can barely tell what kind of roads there are (dirt or rock). Just trying to get as...

Anyone hunting or hunted Unit 24

I am planning a deer hunt for this October and was planning on focusing on the area south of sagebrush park and round park and green mountain, which is Unit 24 I think for elk, and 96 for deer. I believe there is an elk season that ends the day before the deer season starts there. I've never...

A couple mule deer and antelope questions for first western hunt

I usually process my deer on my own, so it won’t be too bad doing it out there, I just haven’t messed with removing the brain. I was thinking of doing the stick method. I did not realize the deer had to be deboned. I’m glad you mentioned that. Good info on the antelope also. I’m probably just...

A couple mule deer and antelope questions for first western hunt

After the last thread I posted about a year ago, I was able to narrow down an area to focus on for my first Wyoming mule deer hunt. I'm looking at a general deer tag in region E, with my focus going into area 96. I bought a preference point last year, so by looking at the numbers I should get a...

    books

I like Steven Rinella's book, The Complete Guide to Hunting, Butchering, and Cooking Wild Game, Volume 1, Big Game. It's full of good info on a variety of big game in the US, including mule deer.

    Planning First Western Hunt

We'll be driving for sure. We should be able to leave on a Friday afternoon and wouldn't have to be back until the next Sunday. That gives enough time for about a 5 day hunt comfortably. I do like the idea of a mule deer buck hunt and an antelope doe tag. It gives options for at least a cheap...

    Planning First Western Hunt

That makes a lot more sense about nonresident hunting in Wyoming. I was wondering how so many nonresidents were talking about hunting there. Wyoming is back in the lead. The opportunities there seem too good to pass up. One more big question. If I put in for a deer and antelope tag like nick87...

    Planning First Western Hunt

In Wyoming do you have to be with a Wyoming resident if you are a nonresident? I thought I have seen that. If that's the case, that eliminates Wyoming. After watching some videos by Randy Newberg today, I am starting to get a better understanding of how to draw tags, and Montana is sounding like...

    Planning First Western Hunt

I have been looking at doing a western rifle hunt with my cousin for a couple years now. Being from IL and both of us being the only hunters in our family, we are pretty pumped for a true DIY western hunt, with the plan to do it next year. I will be doing the hunting while he comes with me to...

    Non Resident Idaho Mule Deer

I'm just starting to research mule deer and elk hunting for Idaho in 2018 and have been looking at 21 and 21a. Not sure if I'm going to hunt mule deer or elk for the first ever trip, but I'm very interested to hear what you learn by hunting these units. I'll be looking forward to hearing about...
