    As a former horseshoer, I would think you should be able to find a used coal forge cheaper than you would be able to build one for if your are on a budget. Just my 2 cents. It's been awhile since I looked at prices though.

    I say 7mm -08. It more versatile with the ability's to kill elk with the right bullet with only slightly more recoil. My 2 boys can handle the 7mm -08 just fine, they are 12 and 14 now but they started shooting when they where 11 and 13. If you hand load you can load up some reduced recoil...
