Been hitting the beavers again now that the water has opened back up. I didn’t feel like battling the ice, so we waited. Caught 5 in the last couple days. Biggest was 46 lb and the smallest was 17 lb. All damage control beavers. One landowner was about ready to go full Rambo on beavers and...

    Kansas Outdoor Heritage Alliance

We’ve been working on building this group for about 3 years now. It started slow, but now we find ourselves turning groups away. We have around 13 groups involved right now. We limit the group to hunting, fishing, trapping, and houndsmen groups. If any of you know of any other local hook and...

    Liberty mutual insurance

Maybe Im the outlier, but I have my broker shop my policies every year. I’ve switched companies a few times. I am now with Cincinnati insurance. If you haven’t shopped your rate in a while you might be shocked at the differences. When I switched companies last year, the premium difference...

    Silver

I bought a fairly large stake of SLV, GLD, and GDXJ a few years ago when SLV was around $20. I listened to too much Peter Schiff and he was making a lot of sense. It’s looking pretty sweet now. Kinda wish I owned some physical instead of digital silver and gold.

Fleshed 2 coons today with a electric 1700 psi power washer and it worked well. For me, this will be my go-to. takes zero skill, and simplifies the process. i did have to do a little bit of manual scraping, but the power washer did 95% of the work.

Mixed bag this morning. Happy with the catch, but thought I’d have a few more muskrats. Moved my muskrat traps to the other side of the pond. Looks like I will need to pull them tomorrow. Winter is coming finally.

    Trapping Thread 2025/2026

Had a big cat finally come into the set…didn’t go in the trap though. Randomly got permission to trap some nearby ponds while at church this morning. I was told it was to remove beavers. Looks like maybe 1 or 2 beavers, but they have a serious muskrat issue. I think they were seeing rats and...

We finally caught our 1st cat of the year. Looks like a female by body characteristics. Probably set her loose.

i’m going to attempt fleshing for the first time pretty soon. Hoping i don’t screw it up too bad. I might try using a power washer on a low quality skin to see if it works. I’ve seen several people use that method. Otherwise ill do it the old fashioned way.

    Help with NAPF Gun Raffle?

Brock, Im sure you have looked into rifle raffle rules, but we found out that raffling off a rifle can be extremely cumbersome depending on state regs. In KS we had to mail a physical ticket to anyone in KS that bought a chance, which was a major pain in the ass.

    .22 ricochet (close call)

I thought it would be cool to shoot a hole through a coin with my .22 when i was like 15. Taped a quarter to a railroad tie and then shot from 10-15 yards. Ricochet nearly hit me. Scared the livin shit out of me. Never tried that again. Put a nice dent in the coin.

New Year starts with 1st KS Upland Hunt!

Im going to PM you a property you should check out. Also, I’ve never hunted or seen scaled quail in KS, though they do exist. The guys who hunt them always say you’re better off driving another couple hours to NM where the pops are much higher. You might find some though if you have some intel!

    your wild game isn't organic

Well said…Im glad you typed that up so I didn’t have to! I work in ag and grew up on a cattle farm. Antibiotics on our farm were strictly used as needed and the treated animals were always subject to a withdrawal period. Additionally, I know there is a lot of negative press around glyphosate...

    Found a Unicorn

100%. he was frustrated last night because I made him pass on a couple shots that were just out of range and not optimal at all. Then we were just about to get a perfect opportunity, and a coyote came through and spooked everything. After he shot today he commented that he was glad that we...

    Found a Unicorn

My son shot his first buck this morning. It wasn’t looking promising. We saw one coyote, but other than that we hadn’t seen anything. This guy walked out in a perfect location and my son made a perfect shot! He was pumped! It seems like whenever he hunts with me, we have bad luck so he...

    Kansas Deer Hunt Questions

They are limited access wiha properties that you can reserve online. It gives more control to the landowner to manage access and set rules. Most of them are near urban areas, but not always.
